This unique permanent opportunity as a Graduate Hydrogeologist at Alcoa, empowers you to shape your career in an exciting three-year customised graduate program, allowing you to contribute to a more sustainable world. During the program you will work across our bauxite mine sites based in the Peel and Upper Southwest regions of Western Australia. You will be part of a hydrogeological team with inputs and responsibilities across the entire mining cycle from long term planning and approvals, mine and pit planning, mining operations and rehabilitation of the Jarrah Forest. Our operations are based in a unique and variable hydrogeological setting so in this role, you will be focusing on groundwater–surface water interaction and drinking water catchment protection.

Challenge yourself to learn and grow! Primarily located at the WA Mining Hub in Pinjarra, you will be able to easily fit the graduate program into your lifestyle. Develop hands-on experience and expertise in:

  • Analysing and collating spatial, hydrogeologic and hydrogeochemical data using ArcGIS, Global Mapper, Aqtesolve and Leapfrog
  • Drill program planning and approvals
  • Hydrogeological logging, bore design, aquifer testing
  • Fieldwork, equipping boreholes with loggers and telemetry, conducting landscape, geomorphological and hydrogeological assessments to develop conceptual hydrogeologic models
  • Analytical and numerical modelling
  • Structuring data for incorporation into databases (EQUIS)

Working alongside seasoned professionals throughout the program, you will be provided with coaching, mentoring, hands-on and professional training to accelerate your development and maximise your full potential. The best part is that your experience will be diverse; from working in our corporate offices, to a local on-site environment within our 2 mine sites.

You will be provided with an increasing level of responsibility to use your innovative thinking, your motivation to learn and passion for growth to shape the future of our business. You will be in an open-minded workplace where your ideas will be valued in a supportive environment, encouraging you to think outside the box.

If you are on the path to graduate by the end of 2024 or have recently completed tertiary qualifications in Hydrogeology, Geology or related fields we want to hear from you!

I love going out into the field and watching a design I created to be executed to plan and hopefully look similar to how it did on the computer.

Learn how to view your past experiences as learning opportunities, especially when responding to selection criteria and interview questions. It is really useful to have thought about how the different things you have done have prepared you to handle future situations.
