Join Arup's multidisciplinary team as a Wind Engineering Consultant, where you will contribute to cutting-edge wind climate analysis, pedestrian comfort assessments, and CFD studies. If you’re passionate about aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, and computational modelling, this is an exciting opportunity for you to develop your consulting expertise.

The Opportunity

  • Contribute to wind engineering consulting, focusing on wind climate analysis, pedestrian comfort, microclimate assessments, and CFD studies.
  • Assist in the setup, execution, and 3D modelling of CFD simulations.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation related to wind engineering and CFD activities.
  • Support the development of software tools and analysis scripts to optimize project workflows.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and manage project tasks, tracking deliverables, and coordinating with stakeholders across teams.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

  • A tertiary degree in engineering or a related field, ideally with a strong fluid mechanics focus (experience in CFD simulation is a plus).
  • Significant experience in 3D modelling, with proficiency in Rhinoceros and Grasshopper.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and report writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Python, particularly for data analysis, automation, and CFD-related scripting.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to foster relationships across teams, with an eagerness to learn and develop expertise in wind engineering and CFD.

I work in the planning team and enjoy most of the work I do, particularly the more technical side of it and wastewater modelling. I less enjoy the reports that come after but that is part of the job that cannot be avoided, particularly for a graduate.

Pros and cons of working at Arup Australia

Pros

  • The meaningful project work that I get to be a part of. I feel engaged and motivated in my role and enjoy coming to work. The team (and office more broadly) are friendly and supportive of my development.

  • You get to work flexible hours, meaning that you can start and finish when it suits you (obviously as long as you work a minimum of 7.5 hours a day, deliver the work, and attend the meetings you're supposed to).

  • Ample time and resources are given for training. Interesting projects. Great team, technically and socially.

  • The culture supports my aim of having good work-life balance. There are many social events during and after business hours.

  • The company has a very strong environmental stance and will not work on projects they feel could compromise their environmental commitments.

Cons

    • Sometimes the expectation to complete work I am unfamiliar with can be cumbersome.

    • The workload can become intense, especially with deadlines on large projects.

    • Some expectations are not laid out clearly. For example, what can be booked on your timesheet or when your time would be volunteered. - Internal tooling is only partially mature.

    • Business fluctuates working in a consulting firm which can lead to periods with a lack of project work. Feeling the pressure to be a productive employee with high billability, particularly during these periods of low workflow.

    • The culture varies between teams, which means that work and support can be variable.
