Your role:

As a Navy Doctor, you'll practice medicine for a seagoing community, looking after the health and wellbeing of Navy personnel and supporting communities in need.

This is a challenging role where you'll get to apply your practical and professional skill sets in a unique environment. You'll be working in modern, fully-equipped facilities with trained Nursing, Administrative and Allied Health staff to support you both at sea and ashore.

Responsible for the general health of all personnel, you may become involved in specialist areas like Aviation Medicine, Underwater Medicine and Occupational Medicine.

Navy Doctors are also supported to specialise in other areas of medicine that are applicable to the Navy and the maritime environment, such as:

  • Primary Health Care,
  • Occupational Medicine,
  • Public Health Medicine,
  • Medial Administration.

There are opportunities for promotion and expansion of skills into health leadership and management, and appropriately experienced doctors can apply for other study streams.

Life in the Navy:

A career in the Navy is a challenging and highly rewarding working environment that comes with a good work/life balance, competitive salary and skills for life. You can expect to feel a unique sense of accomplishment and pride from serving and protecting our country and helping to keep our vast coastlines safe.

Life in the Navy is anything but mundane. You'll enjoy varied lifestyles, rewarding careers, opportunities to travel, and excellent social and fitness facilities, free medical and dental; all in a dynamic and fulfilling working environment.

Don't worry, it's not all life at seaโ€”there's more to the Navy than ships, submarines and helicopters. Some days, you might be exploring exciting new countries with your fellow crewmates. Other days, you could be stationed locally not too far from home.

Salary:

When you first join the Navy and while studying for your degree at the university of your choice, you will be paid a salary of between $66,243 and $73,707 depending on your year of study. This is in addition to your university sponsorship.

Upon completion of your initial military and employment training, you'll enjoy a competitive starting salary package from $129,560 which includes a maritime allowance when serving at sea.

In addition to your salary, you will receive generous superannuation, housing subsidies and free medical and dental care.

Apply Now:

If you're an Australian citizen, completed at least one year of an appropriate AHPRA approved degree and have no more than four years of full time study outstanding to complete your degree, apply for this role and get sponsored to finish your degree. You need to be an Australian Citizen and able to meet the minimum security, medical and fitness requirements.
