What will you do?

Join the Advanced Innovation (AI) Stream - one of Cochlearโ€™s R&D teams developing new technologies for the future of hearing implants. Work in the early exploration phase of R&D, where we try to push the boundaries and sometimes โ€œfailโ€ in the process of learning what is possible.

There are 5 separate teams within AI, each with their own specialisation.  

As a Summer Student Intern, you could:

  • Join the 3AC team and analyse a dataset from a research study to discover the key learnings, or use machine learning approaches to design and test algorithms for cochlear implant systems and clinical care OR
  • Join the Implants Science team and test new materials or designs for implanted medical devices OR
  • Join the Surgery and Electrodes team and work with a surgical robotic arm or new electrode designs in human cadaveric temporal bones OR
  • Join Incubation Operations and work in a fast-paced start-up environment on a new epilepsy monitoring implant OR
  • Join Biosciences and work on gene therapy to improve CI outcomes, or new ways to deliver drugs to the cochlear

Most suitable academic disciplines for the Advanced Innovation stream are: Data Science (Statistics and Machine Learning, Electrical/Biomedical Engineering (signal processing), Mechanical/Biomedical engineering, Computer Science or Material Science

Who are we looking for? 

To be eligible for our Summer Student Internship Program โ€“ Advanced Innovation Stream, you will need to:

  • Be a penultimate-year student, completing your degree in calendar year 2026
  • Possess the right to work in Australia without sponsorship after graduation
  • Available to work full-time from late November 2025 to mid-February 2026
