Summer 2024/2025 Internships

We have opportunities available to the next generation of engineering and science talent by providing summer internships to, and investing in, students studying the following:

  • Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering (hardware and software)
  • Food Science/Consumer Food Science

Opportunities are available in both Auckland and Dunedin design centres. Choose your preferred location (the one you can practically spend your summer break in) and apply now!

What’s in it for me?

Summer Internships are paid fixed term employment from mid-November 2024 to mid-February 2025. There is a Christmas closedown where you can still get a break!  You’ll get real world experience to apply your learning so far, and set yourself up for your final year of study success.  At the end of your internship you may be offered a graduate position for when you complete your studies to come back and join us on a permanent basis.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be joining a functional team and working on a specific project over the course of your internship. These projects have been specifically chosen to add real value to the work the teams are doing.  Your work will have a purpose and support real outcomes and decision making as we iterate and improve our end products for our customers in the global market. You’ll have a buddy and be part of a cohort getting regular support while you’re with us.

Our ideal students?

You should be curious, collaborative, human-centred and love to learn.  Problem-solving is your jam.  You love gathering data, analysis and presenting your findings.  You’re a well-rounded person and have some interests outside of work – balance is important.  Our selection process is designed for you to demonstrate both your technical and non-technical qualities so don’t hold back. Let’s get to know you.

What do our interns say about their experience with us?

There’s nothing like getting off campus and into a professional workplace and action learning alongside the world’s best design engineers.  But don’t take our word for it.  Here’s some comments from last summer’s interns:

“… Looking back on my performance as an intern, the learning curve definitely seemed steep at first but my supervisors and team were always there to support me and answer my abundance of questions. Experiencing the real-life application of the engineering design process throughout my project has been extremely valuable in developing my hands on engineering skills and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to industry.”

“The internship was well structured…I feel like I have gone through a bit of everything.”

“The internship was also centred around learning more than achieving project results which I think really help to transition from a student to an employee.”

I want in! How do I apply?

Please ensure that you include your academic transcript (not because we focus on grades but because we’re curious to see the specific subjects you’ve chosen) and CV.  We cannot assess applications without a transcript.

Applications close Sunday 7 July 2024.

Not a lot of companies are truly global – being under the Haier umbrella but headquartered in New Zealand is unique and opens up opportunities not just here but abroad. Ours is a culture where people thrive.

I find it inspiring being a small part of something bigger, and empowering —individual contributions can have an out-sized impact when they have the leverage of the company behind them.
