Steven Kang

I joined Nexia Sydney as an Audit Graduate in December 2019 and have since progressed to become a Senior Auditor. I specialise in multiple sectors including education, charities, health and financial services. Come with me and see what a day in the life at Nexia Sydney looks like!

5.30 AM

My day starts off bright and early as I head to the gym in the city. We are fortunate enough to have a fitness first in the building. Physical exercise is important in my daily life as it relieves the daily stresses of work and home. I will then head to the showers and change room facilities which are outstanding as part of the services provided by the building.

8.30 AM

I arrive in the office full of energy from the workout and greet my colleagues. As auditors, we travel to and from clients and therefore it’s always a great surprise to see who is in the office to catch up. Today however is a special day as it’s our end of busy season day where the whole Audit team comes together after 4 months of hard work and the 31 December Audits have been completed. As part of our end of busy days, we always have a team activity in the morning, followed by a lunch.

10.00 AM

After a team meeting, we embark on a CSR activity whereby we pick up trash around the city. This is a first-time activity for us and the team are excited to pick up some trash in the bright sun, as the pictures below can tell.

1.00 PM

After our clean up in the morning at Hyde Park, we have built up quite an appetite, and this year we have organized a lunch Matteo’s in Double Bay. The food was delicious but catching up with friends is the highlight of the day for everyone to see how everyone is doing. Every week in audit, we are with different people so it is amazing to catch up.

After a tummy full of food, we then move onto the nearby pub for some more socializing.

Aside from this, a normal day in the life of an auditor will consist of travelling to the client’s office and conducting audit tests. The audit tests range from verifying account balances to talking to clients about the company’s financial information for the period we are auditing. It is a very interesting job and is fulfilling to complete, as it is like a project that requires a lot of team effort to complete. The unity and teamwork are unlike anything else and in our audit team, you really feel like you are part of a family where everyone is willing and wants to help you in every step of your career. I have been fortunate enough to work on a lot of clients in varying industries, including investment managers, government entities in the health sector, and private schools. The job is hard at times but rewarding in the end!
