Your role

Work and learn. Get the right start to your career with Saab Australia.

Our paid internship program will give you the opportunity to put into practice what you have been learning throughout your studies and gain invaluable experience in the defence and security industry.

The program runs for up to 12 weeks over the December to February period (including the end-of-year shutdown period from 21 December 2024 – 5 January 2025 inclusive). 

During this placement, you will work alongside our expert engineers gaining experience on real-life projects and case studies. You will learn from colleagues who are specialists in their field and develop your skills and knowledge further.

Some of the roles offered in our upcoming program include:

Adelaide based:

  • Software Engineering: focused on mixed reality 3D visualisation for defence products, as well as software tool support and development for our combat management system product
  • Systems Engineering: focused on design and prototyping of space surveillance health, as part of our Autonomous Mission System space domain awareness product
  • Modelling & Analysis: focused on simulation of autonomous robot functionality, optimisation of the “two-language problem” using  the Julia programming language, simulated data for machine learning, and shape based aircraft trajectory analysis. 

Melbourne based:

  • Software Engineering: focused on mixed reality 3D visualisation for deployable field hospitals
  • Biomedical Engineering: focused on designing healthcare facilities for use by military forces

About you:

To be eligible for the Saab Australia Internship Program, you will need to meet the following criteria: 

  • You will be in your penultimate year or have completed at least 3 years of a Bachelor’s Degree 
  • You will be an Australian citizen and able to meet defence industry security requirements

We are seeking degree specialisations in the below disciplines (or similar): 

  • Computer Science/Software Engineering
  • Physics/Mathematics
  • Computer Systems/Network Engineering
  • Aerospace/Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering
